The Sunshine Coast

18/2 - 21/2 - 2008

The house by the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast

The night between the 17th and the 18th was hectic. Not so much for me, but for Kym and Sandra. Fred, Sandra's dad, had a heart attack and went to hospital.

We should have left early in the morning to drive to Fred and Marge's house by the beach, but of course we stayed home until we were sure Fred would be ok. Kym and Sandra went to see him at the hospital and I slept.

I woke up Monday morning with the worst cold!!!! I felt awful and spent most of the day in bed. I got some great Flu tables though and felt a lot better already the next day.

19th - Australian Zoo! WOW! What a place! :)

"Home of the Crocodile Hunter" - well it was until he died... But they still have Croc shows, like when Steve Irwin was there, teaching the spectators to respect the Crocodiles, but not hate them.

Croc Show at the Crocoseum

The Croc Show was entertaining and educational.
The red line marks the Croc Territory

Statue of Steve Irwin and his family. I love that his dog is there too!

The Echidnas was my favourite animal in the zoo. He was such a busy little chap. He kept walking - he walked and walked and it didn't look as if he had a goal. He just liked looking busy :D
They are absolutely facination - they are egg-laying mammals!!!!!! Read more here!

I petted a Koala :)
Read about Koalas here!

And I petted and hand-fed not just one, but several Kangaroos :)

He looks hungry...

Yep! He was!

Of course I was interested in the wild Australian dog, the dingo... But I only saw one and it was alseep!

ZZzzzzz

Other animals:

Yiks - I don't do snakes well!

The wombat - he was very cute!
Read about him here!

A Biscuit Bird!!!! Blue eyes like Biscuit :D

And a caterpillar, but that was not really a zoo animal :)

20th.
I started the morning by a walk to the beach - it was a beautiful morning and it was nice to spent some some just with me and my thoughts after so many busy days.

It is as if you see the beauty if the nature more, when you are alone and quiet.

I didn't stay out for long - we were soon off to the mountains to see Montville, a charming little mountain village. We found the best little shops there. My favourite was this one:

Look at the dog.... Her name is Princess and she smelled awful, but was very happy and excited about 'her guests'

It wouldn't kill her to loose a kilo or two.... Gosh, she was fat! :D

We stopped in Caloundra on our way back to the beach house.

Look what I found in the garden :)

Out for tea with Merle Rush later that day. She is Geoffrey Rush's mother and could tell lots of interesting stories about his life and career.

21st
After packing and getting everything sorted, we went to the beach Mooloolaba and enjoyed the beautiful weather and a cup of coffee, before we went back to Brisbane.

I couldn't decide which photo from Mooloolaba I wanted to use, so you got both of them :)

Ibis

We wanted to get home early to give Kym and Sandra a chance to visit Fred at the hospital, but we got cought in traffic and it took twice as long to get home as it should have!
Strange though...??? Everytime I asked how long we had left, the answer was 'About 20 minutes'. We had 20 minutes left for about 3 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey - I did the Shrek Donkey thing "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" :D

Back in Brisbane it was time to relax and I was watching TV... Switching between channels without really watching... Until I suddenly heard Danish voices!!!! My favourite Danish TV Show was on Australian TV!!!! 'Rejseholdet' or 'Unit One' as they call it in Australia. COOOOOOOOOOL :D
I think my excitement was a bit OTT, but Hey, how often do you get to see Ingrid Dahl and Fischer with English subtitles? :)

You could even buy the DVDs!!!!!!

Mmmm well... I did warn you that I went a bit mad....
